Nothing beats the aroma of freshly baked Pav Buns! These soft delights are a staple in Indian street food, often enjoyed with bhaji, vada, or even just butter and chai. Making them at home is easier than you think. Follow this recipe to bake the perfect Pav Buns at your convenience!
Ingredients:
3 1/2 cups (450g) all-purpose flour
2 tsp instant yeast
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
3/4 cup (180ml) warm milk
1/4 cup (60ml) warm water
2 tbsp butter (softened)
2 tbsp milk (for brushing)
1 tbsp melted butter (for glaze)
Instructions:
Step 1: Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, mix warm milk, warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. This indicates the yeast is active.
Step 2: Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and softened butter. Knead into a soft, slightly sticky dough. You can knead by hand for 10-12 minutes or use a stand mixer for 6-8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Step 3: First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1-2 hours until it doubles in size.
Step 4: Shaping the Pav
Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 10-12 equal portions. Shape each portion into a smooth ball and place them in a greased baking tray, leaving slight gaps in between.
Step 5: Second Rise
Cover and let the shaped buns rise for another 30-40 minutes until they puff up and fill the gaps.
Step 6: Bake the Pav Buns
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the risen buns with milk and bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.
Step 7: Final Touch
Once baked, brush the hot buns with melted butter for a glossy finish. Let them cool slightly before serving.
